What loon can and can't see.
loon listens only when you say "hey loon." Audio stays on your Mac unless you choose otherwise. Here is exactly how it works, in plain English.
The microphone
What loon can do:loon listens for the wake phrase "hey loon" and the few seconds after.
What it never does:loon does not record continuously. It does not transcribe ambient conversation. The wake-word listener runs entirely on your Mac.
What you say
What loon can do:The few seconds after the wake phrase are sent to loon's voice model so we can answer.
What it never does:We do not store your audio. We do not use it to train models. You can review and delete the last 30 days of transcripts in Settings.
The screen
What loon can do:When you ask loon to read or summarize what is on screen, it reads the active window for that one request.
What it never does:loon does not watch your screen between requests. It does not take screenshots. It does not read other apps.
Mail, calendar, messages
What loon can do:When you grant access, loon can read your inbox, calendar events, or messages so you can ask about them.
What it never does:loon does not send mail or messages without confirming first. You can revoke any of these in Settings at any time.
Your account
What loon can do:We store your email, plan, and settings. That's it.
What it never does:No advertising IDs. No third-party trackers. We never sell or share your data. Ever.
One indicator, always on.
When loon is actively listening or thinking, a small accent dot lives in your menu bar. It glows when the microphone is hot. If the dot is off, the microphone is off. There is no "but actually it's listening sometimes." If you've ever wanted that promise from a voice assistant, this is it.
